This is the other portrait set-up we did with pro @overwatchleague gamer @_geguri for @time’s Next Generation Leaders. Imagine being 19 and photographed for TIME Magazine (amazing! nerve-racking!) and then the photographers don’t speak the language you do (ahh!) and they’re asking you to tilt your head and move just so and look in that direction *in a foreign language*. You might feel a liiiiiittle like Bill Murray in that “Lost In Translation” photoshoot scene. And yet Geguri pulled it off with grace! TIME Magazine’s annual Next Generation issue is out! We photographed Kim Se-yeon, 19, aka @_geguri. Geguri is a professional e-gamer (in a male-dominated pro sport) on the Shanghai Dragons in the @overwatchleague. We set up a temporary studio in the @blizzard arena for @time. It was our pleasure to photograph musician, singer, songwriter, photographer, animal rights activist, producer, author (...) @moby in a rare light LA rain outside his home for The Wall Street Journal. After taking photos, we had some interesting conversations with him about photography (as you can imagine he has been photographed many times) and different approaches to portraits (and he mentioned that we had persuaded him to stand on a chair in the trees in rain, 😅 oh yeeeea, thaaaat). We photographed voice actress Julia Whelan for @thelilynews. Julia has recorded approximately 400(!!) audiobooks, so you might recognize her voice if you were to speak to her. @justjuliawhelan is the multitude of voices and accents and drama in “Gone Girl” 😳 and “Educated” and “The Wife Between Us” and on and on and on. #makeportraits

The last time we were in Mexico City, we were there to take portraits of @robynkonichiwa (🎶call your girllllfriennnnnddddd🎶) and @_royksopp_ and we’ve never met nicer humans. There was an earthquake before our time to take portraits (while they were filming a new music video together), so we stood outside with them on the street until the chandeliers stopped swinging. We head back to Mexico City this weekend for work (and our anniversary), can’t wait!

We joined millions of people around the world this weekend in seeing . At this point we think we’ve photographed four members of the cast. We are traveling like mad for a cool project until the end of June, but we are home in LA for a brief respite and we have to give 100 high fives ✋ to the Photo Gods because, as every self-employed creative knows, all the great work calls come in *the minute* you leave town and can’t do them and that can be agony (raise your hand if you know what I’m talking about 🙋‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️), but the Photo Gods have broken that cruel rule for us and have been so good to us with some rad photoshoots this week home between travels. 🙏 Thank you, Photo Gods. Okay, so this Seattle #brinsonbanksing photo sortakinda annoys me for a couple reasons (one being there was a giant white truck parked right in front that we tried to cover 😂), but I am determined to get one of these photos at each of our stops around the world for this project we are working on and we only had enough time to run 6 blocks with the camera, flash and tripod, get one frame on timer and run back to hop in a car to the airport. We impressed one woman who was “awwww”-ing during this 10 second interlude and informed us we “are so cute,” so there’s that. We got absolutely hilarious photos and videos of multiple fish tosses near this spot yesterday with one of the people we’re working on this project with and I wish we could show you those, but we can’t, so please accept this backbreaking kiss instead. Next stop, Boulder, Colorado and then Mexico City!
